Phone product photography: 10 photos worth taking

A buyer cannot pick the item up. Your photo set must therefore do more than attract attention: it also has to remove uncertainty.

Prepare the setting first

Photograph near a window in daylight, but avoid harsh direct sun. Choose a calm, plain background, clean the item and remove distracting personal details from the frame. Flash often creates hard reflections and misleading colours.

Ten useful photos

The complete item from the front: use this as the main photo.
Another angle: show the side or a three-quarter view.
The back: do not leave a whole surface unknown.
Brand and model: photograph the logo, label or data plate.
An important detail: material, connector, stitching or control.
Measurements: include a tape measure when dimensions matter.
Accessories: show everything included in the price together.
Operation: show a powered-on display or status indicator.
Faults close up: scratches, stains, wear and damage.
The fault in context: show where it is and how large it is.

What makes a better main photo?

Let the item fill most of the image without cutting it off. Keep it straight and immediately recognisable. Choose one clean image rather than a collage. Marketplace photography guidance generally recommends showing the whole item first and using separate images for details.

Do not hide faults

Removing damage may make a prettier image in the short term, but it can lead to complaints and lost trust. Correcting brightness or crop is reasonable; changing the item's real condition is not. Describe every known fault in both the photos and the copy.

Quick check before uploading

Are the photos sharp and the colours realistic? Can the buyer see the whole item, its data plate, every accessory and every known fault? If so, they can decide with fewer follow-up questions.
